Chairman’s Theme Competition 2010

The Theme for 2010 is for members to produce a film about their home town or an event that takes place in their home town during the next 12 months.

In 2011, we will be guests of the Paderborn Club in Germany and they have challenged Bolton and Le Mans to prepare a 30 minute film show about their home town. No film may be more than 5 minutes long but the challenge enables us to show the work of as many members as possible within the time constraints.

Normal competition rules permit films of up to 20 minutes so some further editing may be required if films are to be shown at Paderborn. However, the chairman would like to show as many films as possible from different contributors to show the range of work from Bolton.

Equipment

Some members are now moving to high definition equipment and indeed many budget priced cameras record onto disc or chip in this format. As a result, the Club has now purchased a blue ray player so that these films can be shown at full quality and the aging projector has also been replaced and upgraded.

Movie Challenge 2009

On Thursday 28 May, Bolton hosted its second Movie Challenge which is open to all Clubs in the North West. There were 10 very strong entries in 2009 covering a wide range of subjects and all films were very well received by a receptive audience.

The winner was Preston’s “Blindfold at Dawn”, a very ambitious film about the effects of shell shock on troops in the trenches in World War 1. We are sure that this film will go on to win further acclaim in the months ahead.

Triventions

The Club were invited to a trivention at Crewe, our opponents being a club from Wolverhampton who proved to be strong opposition. However, our programme was narrowly judged to be the better of the two and we were awarded the trophy. Actually the trophy turned out to be a box of biscuits which Crewe thought was a more practical reward.

The Club were also successful in November in a trivention at Stoke, our opponents being Derby.

Derby presented a very interesting and challenging programme. However our programme which included several very humorous films proved to win favour with our hosts and we were again presented with a prize for the benefit of our Club members.

News

Further success was to follow in the Millennium Competition organised by Preston Moviemakers.

Bolton’s programme was proclaimed the overall winner and Llangollen Railway, a film by Carl Brandwood, was awarded the BBC Radio Lancashire Trophy for best sound. This is first time that both trophies have been awarded to the same Club.
